Advantages of Trellising
- It takes less space and plant population per hectare can be increased.
- In rainy season, it keeps the plants off the ground
- It is beneficial for fruit color and avoids rotting when in contact with wet soil.
- In dry season, it enables the grower to carry out pruning which improves the climate within the plants
Trellising structures can be simple vertical bamboo sticks, iron or wooden poles with netting or ropes. In gourds, it is mostly vertical and horizontal trellis since the plant size is quite large.
