Description

The Group Head, Product Development (PD) provides leadership and functional guidance to the PD team. You advocate teamwork, represent product knowledge and agronomy in decision processes, and collect and deliver trial results and product data to strengthen the crop advancement process and the ‘to market product strategy PD works collaboratively with Crop Strategy, R&D, and Marketing functions. Your role and responsibility include annual budget planning and crop strategy contribution. It is a global role.

Tasks and responsibilities include :

Development and execution of the Product Development

  • Drives the development and execution of a highly efficient and reliable product testing and selection process to support EWS product development initiatives.
  • Oversees and provides high-level supervision of product evaluation in the pipeline based on various PD activities (i.e. trailing activities) to guide product advancement based on current and future needs of customers in target markets as described in crop master plans (CMPs). Ensures that key stakeholders are regularly updated on the progress/key milestones and that agreed timelines are adhered to.
  • Works collaboratively with Crop Managers, CBMs, and Group Marketing team to clarify CMP priorities and output expectations and contribute to the development of new product and/or market development ideas.
  • Ensures that local and group PD teams deliver quality trial reports and product advancement summaries and recommendations.
  • Works collaboratively with Technical service manager in establishing the right farming, and trial execution standard procedure, aligns on technical and product knowledge sharing to internal stakeholders which are R&D, PD, and Commercial.

Data Analytics and Management

  • Sets standards for the collection and analysis of trial data and the consolidation of trial results in a central database centered on Phenome. Ensures robust and efficient management of testing-related data in the EWS-prescribed platform and optimum use of available data analytics to inform product selection decisions

Technical Knowledge Sharing and Management 

  • Works closely with Group Technical Service Manager to align product development and growing knowledge-sharing principles, tools programs, and procedures for different stakeholders from our internal R&D, PD,
  • Commercial to external growers. Ensures key knowledge sharing added value to the business.
  • Ensures the setup, maintenance, and update of product development knowledge and crop master data such as varieties’ performance feedback, new market insight, germplasm collection, and disease mapping as key resources to the R&D and commercial team.

People Management and Development

  • Responsible for building a PD organization structure that is fully optimized. Identifies workforce requirements based on the evolving needs of the business.
  • Develops strategy for improving the overall capability of the team to support current and future business requirements.
  • Provides strategic support and coaches country PD leaders to strengthen their leadership across countries.
  • Works collaboratively with HR partners in driving a talent management plan aimed at   increasing talent bench strength and a healthy succession pipeline in the department. 
  • Uses the available HR programs, processes, and tools to effectively manage the performance of the team and continuously engage them to deliver maximum productivity.

Financial Management

  • Prepares, reviews, and monitors the annual operating budget of the department, CAPEX, and ensures all proposed investments are supported by a thorough financial analysis.

Are we looking for you?

  • Experienced (average of 5 years)   in a similar role gained from an agriculture industry; specifically, hands-on field experience and direct knowledge of crops, cultivation practices, and how different agronomic practices influence outcomes
  • Business insight; strong understanding of the business, industry and market dynamics. Is able to apply this knowledge into strategy development and spot potential opportunities/risks ; complemented with a deep field experience
  • Strategic mindset ; can build a robust plan supported by a clear, logical strategic framework ; able to anticipate and visualize future scenarios ;
